WHY US?

NOT ALL TEA TREE OILS ARE CREATED EQUAL. AT OLIVE GAP ORGANIC FARM, WE VALUE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY AND ARE COMMITTED TO PRODUCING YOU THE HIGHEST QUALITY, LOWEST FOOTPRINT ESSENTIAL OILS.

Our oil is distilled onsite in small batches using traditional methods where woodfire extracts the oil with slow steam distillation. We are one of the only farms in Australia still producing in this artisan way.

_______________

This gentler, low-pressure extraction method retains more of the complex compounds found in the leaves. This allows the plant's natural botanical aroma to shine through and retain more of the Tea Tree goodness.

As we follow the whole process through from start to finish, every bottle can be traced back to the block it was harvested from and its own unique batch.

SEASONAL HARVEST

Our Tea Tree is harvested annually, usually in late winter. Therefore every year is unique with a distinctive character and vintage. Some years are dry, some wet, some smoky, the story of the seasons is infused into each batch, and we love to share its journey with you.

SUSTAINABLY FARMED

Melaleuca alternifolia, the botanical name for Tea Tree, is a perennial crop, native to Bandjalang country, on which we farm. It grows wild in the forested parts of the property and in nearby Bundjalung National Park and is therefore very at home on our small plantation. Keeping native forest on our farm is an integral part of our holistic management of the land and helps us to retain biodiversity, which is often lacking in large, broadacre farms. Doing our bit for water conservation, our plantation relies on seasonal rainfall rather than large scale irrigation, leaving more water in the environment, for the environment.

WHY ORGANIC?

Not all Australian Tea Tree plantations are organic, in fact, there are surprisingly few. Conventional farms often use large amounts of herbicides and pesticides to manage large areas and use vast amounts of water for flood irrigation.

We rotate cows around the blocks for natural weeding, as they love the grass but avoid the Tea Tree. Fertilising as they go, they are part of a closed-loop system that helps us to farm the land organically with as little footprint as possible.

Always striving to do better, we are implementing regenerative farming practices that will allow us to build soil carbon and nutrition, leaving the land better than we found it.

We are proud to be certified with ACO (Australian Certified Organic). We believe wholeheartedly in organic certification as it provides a support network for farmers and ensures we are kept accountable to the ethics of organic stewardship.
